Foscarini Tress by Marc Sadler

Foscarini Tress Lamp designed by Marc Sadler

Tress, introduced by Foscarini at Euroluce 2009 in Milan, aims to break new boundaries in material research. The organic interplay of light and material through filled and empty space is both extremely tactile and visually poetic. Designed by Marc Sadler, Tress is made of interwoven resin filled fibers that recall the texture of baskets.

Tress is made of composite materials, similar to those already used by Marc Sadler and Foscarini in the Mite and Twiggy collections, but with completely different application and results. This creates new expressive possibilities for the collection and develops new functions as well. The organic and seemingly random appearance of the interwoven structure is, in fact, a highly planned, unique industrialized process developed by Foscarini and Sadler.

The collection is available in three colors – white, black or red – each revealing different personalities of Tress: black strongly underlines the woven structure that shapes the body of the lamp; the white version has a lighter, more discrete presence, while the red version, most dramatically emphasizes the interplay of light and shade in the weave, and when illuminated emphasizes a two tone effect. In the floor version, the beam of light spreads both through the body and out the top, which creates an attractive effect due to two light sources with separate switches. The lower light illuminates the heart of the lamp and underlines the intertwined graphics, creating an enveloping effect, while the upper part bounces light off the ceiling. To produce a clean and elegant sculpture, the cable that feeds the two light sources is cleverly disguised in the interwoven structure. The hanging versions direct the beam of light down and when placed in succession, create a pathway of innovative lighting effects that are ideal for large spaces. The table version, with its delicate weave of light and shade, decorates the surface it is placed on to complete the collection.
