Construction update February 2011: final construction is underway on the Modern Design Concept House. The Modern Design Concept House is a planned modern showcase house in Sonoma California displaying the best in modern construction materials and interior design. Projected completion date for the showcase house is Fall 2011.
The house will be open by appointment to visitors starting Fall 2011. Appointments to the house can be made through Stardust.

The Modern Design Concept House is a showcase house initiative sponsored by Stardust, a Sonoma based showroom of high-end modern interior design and home improvement products. The Modern Design Concept House is currently under construction and has an expected completion date of Fall 2011. The Modern Design Concept House will be on view until January 2014 and can be viewed free of charge by appointment.
Appointments to tour the house are necessary since the house will be inhabited to show a real-working environment. Appointments to tour the house can be scheduled through Stardust.
The architecture of the Modern Design Concept House draws inspiration from several classic icons of mid century modern architecture including but not limited to the Villa Arpel (featured in Jacques Tati's Mon Oncle), La Maison de Verre by Pierre Chareau and the Case Study House Program which ran between 1945 and 1966. The Case Study Houses were experiments in American residential architecture sponsored by Arts &
Architecture magazine, which commissioned major architects of the day, including Richard Neutra, Raphael Soriano, Craig Ellwood, Charles and Ray Eames, Pierre Koenig and Eero Saarinen.

The Modern Design Concept House is located in the
picturesque town of Sonoma; the heart of California's Wine Country.
Upon walking through the gated front yard and house, guests are greeted
by beautiful Sonoma mountain views just beyond an exquisite all-tile
glass pool hand crafted by Lightstreams Glass Tile of Santa Clara,
California. The Modern Design Concept House is a brilliant white modernist structure in steel, glass and white AAC block. The Modern Design Concept House is the
first approved modern house in California to use Xella's Hebel AAC (autoclaved aerated concrete). AAC is a super energy efficient building block construction material patented by the German company Hebel. Hebel's AAC is non-combustible and its R 29 rated insulating properties help to protect steel and other materials.
Other notable inclusions in the Modern Design Concept House: R 40 roof insulation with closed cell insulation and further insulation finishing systems by Parex (USA). CITY multi zone simultaneous cooling and heating system by Mitsubishi (USA/Japan), electric radiant floor heating system by Nuheat (Canada), indoor direct vent gas fireplace by Spark Fires (USA), outdoor heating by EcoSmart Fire (USA). Interior floor will be laid out entirely with white crystallized glass tile by Spazia (USA). Outdoor areas in white concrete overlaid with imported white tumbled Indian quartz. Floor to ceiling sliding doors and windows by Fleetwood Windows (USA) with SunGuard SN-68 glass by Guardian Industries (USA). Round glass windows facing street side by Aluminalia (Spain). Interior passage doors, dividers and closets provided by Rimadesio (Italy). Interior solar hot water heater, roof windows and skylights provided by Velux (Denmark), exterior solar hot water heater by Heliocol (USA), maximum efficiency E19 series solar panels by SunPower (USA). Bathroom design provided by Antoniolupi (Italy), Axor (Germany/USA), Geberit (Germany) and Panasonic (Japan). White glossy lacquer elektra kitchen provided by Ernestomeda (Italy), glacier white countertops by Corian (USA), appliances by Gaggenau (USA/Germany), foodservice system by Franke (USA/Switzerland). Reverse osmosis full home water filtration system. Furniture supplied by Bernini (Italy), Herman Miller (USA), Fritz Hansen (Denmark), Vitra (Germany), Kartell (Italy), Rimadesio (Italy). Lighting provided by Artemide (Italy), Flos (Italy), FontanaArte (Italy), Itre (Italy), Kundalini (Italy), Tokistar (USA), W.A.C. lighting (USA). Whole home audio system by Yamaha (Japan). Further decorative elements include glass block tiles for dividing walls by Seves (Italy), glass mosaic by Bisazza (Italy), all-tile swimming pool glass tiles by Lightstreams Glass Tile (USA), mid century modern screen block courtyard walls by A-1 block (USA), large grassy yard with informal composition of Navajo boulders (as found in Richard Neutra's Kaufmann Desert House). Interior rugs and textiles by Knoll (USA) and Missoni Home (Italy).
