Power of Photoshop

Today we received the latest catalog from DWR (image on left) and West Elm (image on right).  See any similarities?   Question: is Williams-Sonoma, Inc now in control of DWR?  We all know Williams-Sonoma, Inc owns West Elm and Pottery Barn but DWR too?  Notice the unique power of photoshop; take a closer look at both photographs and spot the differences/errors: left image: bottom of Bougainvillea.  We know a Bougainvillea is a though plant but they don't grow through patio pavers.  This must be a very unique plant since it has also managed to outrun its own shadow (the lounge chair was not so lucky).  Notice some other differences: West Elms image shows the same Bougainvillea but it has been given some really super powered Miracle-Gro.  Never the less, beautiful collection and catalog.

Beautiful Modernist Stairway

This must be a top contender for the title of "most beautiful modern stairway in the world"! This super modern stairway is a new design by the Swiss Architectural Firm EM2N for the public records office Canton Basel-Landschaft.  Simply amazing, the form reminds us of the Escargot lamp by French designer Serge Mouille from 1953.

Wespi De Meuron Architecture
Swiss Stone House, Brione, Switzerland

We simply love this superbly executed stone and concrete house in Brione Switzerland.  Designed by Wespi De Meuron, a Swiss architectural firm.  This inviting house uses the best of both worlds. A traditional stone masonry structure enforced with the clean contemporary lines of concrete. The stone house feels both comfortable and protective, evoking a sense that one could get from an old castle. It emits a sense of quality and understated elegance that is uncommon in most modern houses.  The architect has shown a remarkable self constraint, nothing in this house is overdone, this house is both less and more, Dieter Rams would be proud of Wespi De Meuron.

The Wespi De Meuron Brione House is located in a densely populated residential area of Locarno in Switzerland, with a view to the city, lake and mountains. The design of this house reacts with restraint to a daily story: building in the urban chaos.

The attributes of a classic house where eliminated: only two single-cut, mutually displaced stone cubes work their way out of the mountain - in fragments - appearing to be part of the landscape, a enclosed and walled home, deprived of a sense of time allocation.

Livable interiors are located inside two identical, large openings with a lockable wooden gate to provide the residents with inner and outer views. Additional light penetrates the inner courtyards. The water of cube-embedded pool makes a visual connection with the lake.
